BTS U.S fan “ I didn’t cry at their L.A concert only cause I didn’t want the tears to blur my vision.”
There is only one reason why this fan didn’t cry at BTS Wings concert at Anaheim, LA in April 2017..She didn’t want to cry because she was afraid the tears will blur her vision and she would not see the members properly. “This was the absolute best memory of life.”
Jenny Flores (22) who graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara said, “People love BTS because of their truthfulness and charm.” She confessed that she always thought K-pop was something odd. However, BTS totally changed the way she thought of K-pop.This is the story of BTS and Jenny.
(Speaking from Jenny’s point of view)
I was subscribing to a Youtube channel called Fine Bros and for the first time, I watched explanation of BTS Dope MV in October of 2015. I really liked it. I thought that maybe I would only like this one song because I thought K-pop was just odd. Then I saw recommended videos of BTS “Boy in Luv” and I saw it. I liked it. I thought, wait, I don’t like K-pop so what’s happening? So I started watching other MVs of BTS and then started distinguishing members by face. I found their names from the comments. Eventually, I discovered Bangtan Bomb. Honestly what made me an ARMY is this Bangtan Bomb which portrays each members’ personality and characters. I thought the members were really funny and that I could see they genuinely really love their fans. They always say, “I love you ARMY” or “Thank you ARMY” That’s the honoest reason why I became an ARMY. After that, I started liking K-pop overall. It’s been three years since I became a mega fan of BTS now.
As a fan, I pay to watch their own contents and aggressively participate in voting project for BTS to be on chart or even award shows. I try to see them in person whenever they come to LA or near areas. Originally I felt the language barriers. However when I read the comments, they said to turn on the caption. There were a lot of translators. Even during live broadcast, I don’t know what members say but I just watch them. After a few hours, I wait for translated videos and I watch them again.
To me, BTS is a like a full gift set. Choreography, music, fashion and their wonderful visual. Those people with such beautiful visual are sweet and funny and even love their fans. I’ve been thinking K-pop is something cool but in a way, thought it was artificial. Americans value individuallity but I found it hard to see that in K-pop. BTS talks about their music a lot. RM tells us how he works the lyrics or how he works with Bang PD nim or other producers, and all seems so honest. When I watch their live broadcast, youtube contents or members’ logs, it feels like we are actually communicating to one another and I see the truthfulness in them.
I was originally a casual fan of Justin Bieber, but I have never liked him as much as I like BTS. I feel that BTS is different because they always give valuable advice to their fans. “Even it’s not okay, it is okay.” “We don’t have to constantly prove ourselves to others.” They reminded me of these messages. I started finding my own happiness.
Americans like underdog story, just like the one of BTS who started from the bottom and came all the way up, as being the “soil spoon idol”. I feel that anyone can relate to this story because we all have the moment where we hit the very bottom. A lot of fans including myself have been watching how BTS succeeded in the U.S and we relate a lot. They make me want to live harder and succeed.
